War of the Worlds (1953)

I'm not the only one who loves this movie. Stephen Spielberg does too.

He loved it so much, that he thought it would do with an updated version, with better effects. He forgot one thing though: The special effects in the original, as ground breaking as they were at the time, was not what made the film great.

The original War of the Worlds had a great story.

It was this story that got lost somewhere along the way in Spielberg's attempt at making a film that would please little boys and girls, and their parents alike, and he ended up with a result that was tamer than a dog on its death bed.

The original film was not so afraid to offend. It had the decency to strike hard when it was needed, and fired its punches with grace.

  1. I love this movie as well. It scared the living daylights outta me as a kid...but through my fear, I admired the sleek design of the Martian craft. And when the nuclear bomb failed against them.... oh shit!!!
