Deep Cover (1992)

What could have been a standard run-by-the-mill undercover cop story, that we've all seen more times than we can remember, is saved by a brilliant director with a strong sense of class, and a great ending.

The overall dusky atmosphere that looms over the whole film makes it feel like you're listening to an album, where you're making up your own dream images as you go along. Legendary music pioneers Future Sound of London even ripped several voice samples from the film to use in their own groundbreaking tunes.

Laurence Fishburne is the beacon who guides us through the crimson night, and his glow is hypnotic as ever. Jeff Goldblum is also unchained and let lose to be as wonderfully crazy on screen as only he can be, making Deep Cover the only film of its genre that is memorable.
